Aquatics Lifeguard Certification |
The YMCA Lifeguard Certification Course
is designed to prepare the participant with the knowledge and
skills needed to be a pool lifeguard. This is not a water park
certification course. Be sure to check with your local
organization to make sure they accept YMCA certifications.
Certifications you will receive by completing this course include: YMCA Lifeguard Training; CPR for the Professional Rescuer; First Aid; AED; and Oxygen Administration. This is not a water park certification course. The comprehensive course offers up to date information on how to guard, anticipating and preventing problems before they occur, and take action to help those in danger when necessary.

Prerequisites |
|
The prerequisites must be met before participating in the course. These skills will used as building blocks to present new material. The prerequisites are:
Be 16 years of age by the last date
of the class.
Pass the physical competency requirements on the first day of
class: Demonstrate the following swimming techniques
(sidestroke, front crawl, and breaststroke, sidestroke kick
with one are forward and inverted breaststroke with arms on
the stomach); tread water for two minutes, legs only, no
hands; surface dive head first and feet first in 8-10 feet of
water and swim underwater for 15 feet.
Complete all of the on-line course requirements prior to the
first day of class which the instructor will email to you upon
registration.
